Fruit Pizza!

Today we reviewed fraction concepts by making fruit pizzas. You can make a fruit pizza from whole-grain bread, whole-wheat bagels, tortillas, crackers, or any type of crust. Just use non-fat or lite yogurt for a sauce and then add your favorite fruit for toppings. We used blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, and raspberries, but you can also use bananas, oranges, apples, or any of your favorite fruits! Check out some of our pictures below...

Third Week

We learned that plants need soil, water, and light to grow. Using this knowledge, we were ready to plant our fruits and vegetables. Students chose their plant and planted them in our planters. To recognize Earth Day, we also created several class planters out of spare water bottles. It has been a wonderful week!

Second Week

We continued to explore fractions and how to write and show fractions. Through SmartBoard activities, I-Pad apps, and worksheets, we are learning about halves, thirds, and fourths. Students also participated in a "Fraction Egg Hunt" where we searched for plastic eggs containing fraction problems. We solved the problems on the white board in the teacher's lounge. It was great fun!

First Week

To open the project, students created a 'lap book' that they will use throughout the unit. Students were given a pre-test to see their knowledge of fractions and graphing. Students were allowed to sample various fruits and vegetables. We discussed the basics about plants and how they grow. Students were asked whether they liked the fruits and vegetables and graphed the results on a bar graph.
